  • Dr. Lim was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to the United States at the age of 4. He received a degree in chemistry from Duke University and his medical degree from the State University of New York. He did his internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship at Emory University and is now Professor of Medicine in the Division of Human Immunology and Rheumatology at Emory University School of Medicine and Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. He also serves as Chief of Rheumatology for Grady Health Systems, the only hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, that serves those with little or no health insurance. His research interests include epidemiology and outcomes in lupus, particularly as it relates to racial health disparities. Dr. Lim is Principal Investigator of multiple investigator-initiated grants, including a R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health and a U01 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health and the CDC to study the role of psychosocial stressors and other social determinants of health on racial health disparities in lupus. Dr. Lim has been an investigator in over 45 lupus clinical trials since 2004. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and Clinical Investigator Fellowship Award by the American College of Rheumatology and has held multiple volunteer positions, including the inaugural Chair of the Collaborative Initiatives Special Committee that oversees The Lupus Initiative, past Chair of the clinical study section for the Rheumatology Research Foundation grants, and current member of the Board of Directors. He is a Deputy Editor for the journal Arthritis Care & Research.
